Character Canon: Final Fantasy XIV AU
Character History:
In the world of Final Fantasy XIV, there are meant to be 13 shards of the multiverse - the Source being the closest to the Gods, the 1st being overflowing with Light, and the 13th being overflowing with Darkness. However, in this AU, there are another 13 - mirroring the originals. The difference is that the God in play for the main place is a god of Light, and the God in play for the mirror is the god of Darkness, Zodiark.
Urianger was born in the 12th shard, as an Ascian. Bringer of Chaos, known as Nabriales - Ascians have the power to teleport, possess, and destroy. He went to the main world, tried to steal a super-powerful rod, and was killed. Like, for-real killed. Soul destroyed. But as he faded, he just happened to fall past the Worldeater/Wishgranter - an original creature between the worlds - and made a wish to survive.
And now he's immortal, being reborn whenever he dies to do it again. However, this is his first life - he's unaware of his future fate.
He was born into the roleswap world where people swap roles and lives (he swapped with Thancred), learning to be a person all alone. Very curious. He grew up as a cute kid on the streets, but then accidentally robbed the wrong person - Louisoix. He was not reported but was instead taken in to hone his talents - learning survival and intelligence techniques. He became a master of both, and then joined the Circle of Knowing (sent to figure out how to stop Ascian) - even if he was of a race that was thought of by everybody as pure evil. It was only Louisoix who knew what he was, and he ended up leaving with Louisoix to stop the Garlean and Primal threat.
And then the moon blew up, and he lost his mentor and closest friend.
Five years later, the Warriors of Light returned. He helped recruit them, and then went off to help them fight Ifrit. It's after beating up Ifrit that he was found by... not Lahabrea (who is the one who appears in the source world, and he desires to kill the world with darkness), but a young Moenbryda - her role swapped with the Nabriales of this world. They both realized this was weird and he explained who he was. She explained that she's playing around with mimicking the Source, so they can become the Source but for Zodiark - so that they can have a stable world and not need to overflow light nor darkness. She spies on it a lot. So he let her possess him and play out invading and capturing the Scions, pretending to be evil - they'll play out what happened in the main world.
The Garleans were defeated and Urianger stopped pretending to be possessed. Thancred began to question Urianger, because he realised that there was Weird Shit going on - this isn't as it should be, in his books. Urianger uses his own powers to break into the Great Gubal Library to get books on this Weird Shit since that place is full of knowledge - letting Thancred come with him, as the Warriors of Light did other things. This is when he learns that him and Thancred were meant to be in opposite roles - and deep down, he worries about it. But on the surface, him and Thancred become boyfriends to share knowledge.
So, he took it on himself (and Moenbryda - who still pretended to not be there) to continue to bring on events recalled from the Source. He helped the Saragin learn how to summon Leviathan, and gave the Sylph the power to bring on Ramuh, alongside helping the twins of the one who saved him - Louisoix - exploring the Coils of Bahamut. During this time, he studied these Primal to see if he could see how they differed from the Source, to find a way to sever their connection. He could find nothing.
But this is the same world where Bahasaie was born. So the Crystal Braves learned about these Primal and tried to summon them, and he decided to help seal them away with the leader of their group, Chikulu, knowing. Only they know, and Urianger promised to himself he'd find a way to calm them and let them be free again.
The next important part for Urianger is him and his girlfriend not doing the 'Nabriales come in and attacks the Scions' thing which caused his death in the main world, and would cause her death. However, Urianger instead admits to Thancred that he's an Ascian and knows how they die. He's accepted by them - him and his girlfriend.
During a celebration with heads of states (which Urianger didn't attend, but Moenbryda did), the Scions are targeted to be assassinated and killed to get them out of the way - but all the Scions survive due to the deeds of another and Urianger is glad. But then he learns from the head Ascian that this world is dying. Him and Moenbryda decide to fuse to help the shard, to bring balance easier. Plus, true love - and Moenbryda was dying at the time.
Urianger, over the next year, had been working hard on finding a way to save their shard from collapsing on itself while watching others fighting dragons and un-sealing Alisaie and Alphinaud both to bring them happiness. And he found one. A sacrifice was needed to make it stable.
However, he did not know how to ask - and was going to do it himself. That is, before Chikulu found out... and chose himself, for personal reasons. With this deed, their planet is at peace for now - no longer having to mirror the Source, having freedom. But he holds the sacrifice hard on his heart, hurt that they needed to lose the one who lead them.
But during this time of peace, Urianger has gotten into Lords of Vermillion - a side-game where minions fight each other for fun. He needs a challenge, and figuring out how to get tiny friends to fight is good.
Character Personality:
Isn't this all we need to know about him?
Well, to be honest, Urianger in all versions is a shady motherfucker. He looks it, he acts it, it's more likely then not that he's got something up his sleeves. However, due to not having grown up in a library and also due to being a fusion now, he actually speaks straightforwardly. Thankfully. He learned to carry himself well on the streets, hiding his smarts behind a quick tongue and a snarky joke with a deadpan look.
Even as somebody who acts like a snarker, he's still him - deep down, he's a quiet nerd who would casually sit with a book and learn things and be happy to be alone forever. A man who's afraid to be revealed for who he is, so he goes out there and gets a reputation as a womanizer and charmer so nobody will pry. If you get beyond his smiles and jokes, he is a very calming joyous man who loves the world and everything in it. However, he clearly isn't human - sometimes showing this by acting alien to threats and not seeming to understand when he's in true danger. He also doesn't seem to understand how much of a charmer he is, getting flustered easily.
Urianger will talk your ear off about his latest discoveries, and he will also listen to your problems and try and solve them. However, due to his alien-ness, he has troubles understanding some of these problems. He picks up on things quickly, but takes a while to grow attached to people. But once he's decided to befriend somebody and figure them out? He is so going to be there, forever following them like a shadow. Like, a little like a shady motherfucker, a little like a stalker, a little like somebody who never learned how to be a human from anybody. One thing he has trouble with is death, oddly enough - for he can't figure out what there might be after nothingness. It's why he made his choice to be revived.
He also believes in following choices to the bitter end - something which rubbed off from his mentor. He also believes that you should do whatever you can to save even one person. Even if he knows he is being used by the head Ascian, he is okay with it. For he will make sure this shard does not fall, even if he ends up enslaved and manipulated.
--
In his many minions - Urianger is a collector and carries at least a few with him (and he will find more as items later-on) - he can summon a spirit to possess them. This spirit actually is part of the fusion of him - it's the side which is more like Moenbryda. So while he's trying to not be aloof and acting like he's too cool for this? She's there laughing at him and being straightforward, even if she can't talk in most minions. They still share thoughts, but usually use their abilities to joke. This power will fade later, of course, but it will be in play when he first arrives, so it's important to have out there. (Losing it will make him concerned but also oddly glad that he's becoming like a true person.)
I'm going to say he can craft well, but is more interested in the theory - that's why he learned. For some, he will be able to make them for people. Minions, as an aside, are soul-less robots who are made to move and be cute.
--
Also, a note on playing both him and AU!Alisaie - while they will be together a lot, I see it as a situation like Noctis and Stella - Urianger, however, will be encouraging her to go separate from him - and she will do this. So they will be aware of each other but won't share much with each other.
